What is Sculptra treatment?

It is a treatment based on Polylactic Acid that works deep in the skin to help stimulate collagen production.

Sculptra® is a bio stimulator. It is applied to the deep layer of the skin and once collagen is formed naturally, Polylactic Acid is absorbed and completely removed.

3 applications with an interval between each of them, of 6 weeks are needed. Maintenance is recommended after 6 months of the last application, followed by one annual reinforcement.

1. What is Sculptra exactly?

Sculptra is an injectable liquid made of Poly-L-Lactic Acid. It’s the synthetic form of lactic acid, which your body produces naturally following exercise. It is perfectly safe, FDA-approved, and contains absolutely no animal by-products or human DNA.

2. How Does Sculptra Work?

Sculptra acts as a bio-activator and extremely powerful collagen stimulator. It stimulates your own collagen, allowing tissue to volumize gradually. Over time, the Poly-L-Lactic Acid dissipates as your own tissue takes its place. Since the product triggers your body to build its own collagen, results are not immediate and can take anywhere from 4-6 months.

3. Who is a Good Candidate for Treatment?

If you’re concerned with hollowness and/or loss of volume due to aging, weight loss, etc. you’re most likely a candidate for Sculptra.

While most Sculptra patients are middle-aged, men and women as young as 25 and as old as 75 have experienced success from treatment too. We require a quick consultation prior to treatment to be sure that Sculptra is the right treatment for you.

4. What Areas can be Treated?

Sunken cheeks and temples are by far the most common areas treated. However, many patients see great benefits from Sculptra when injected in the chin and the jawline too. Even more, many women are choosing to reverse the signs of aging on their chests by having Sculptra injected in their chest wrinkles and folds.

5. When Will I See Results?

Results are not immediate. Results generally take 4-6 months, depending upon a variety of factors, like volume loss and age. Patients will continue seeing changes through the 9th month, and at that time full results are expected.

Sculptra is not for patients who need instant gratification. But if you can be patient, the results are absolutely worth the wait. Just ask any Sculptra patient or check out some before and after photos and you’ll see for yourself.

6. How Long Does Sculptra Last?

Sculptra will last 2-3 years once the series of treatments are completed. So while it is a bit more costly than H.A. fillers, patients often justify spending a little more for the time in which they can enjoy results. Most fillers only last about a year so Sculptra is considered a great investment.

7. What is the Downtime?

Technically, there’s no actual “downtime.” It’s an out-patient treatment that won’t take much more than an hour to perform. When finished, most patients feel that they can go on about their normal day activities. Like H.A. fillers, you can experience some swelling at the injection sites that will generally subside in less than a week. Mild to moderate bruising is also common. Tenderness, itching, and redness are other common side-effects.
